Genre: Ambient + Indian Carnatic Fusion

Talking about this track is really talking about this movie, Baraka. A very unique one of itโ€™s kind documentary that is nothing but a montage of some of the most amazing places on our planet, presented through the perception of sound and music with an underlying current of human empathy towards our home, our planet.

Varanasi Sunrise is a track that plays while the filmmakers explore Varanasi, the ghats and most vividly the cremation grounds, where hundreds of funerals take place at a time. There coverage of Varanasi Cremations (by the ghat) is one of the most powerful, moving imagery I have ever come across both as a viewer and filmmaker. The track actually plays towards the end of Varanasi Chapter of the movie, leading to a beautiful sunrise. A metaphorical depiction of Hope, continuation of life from whatever it is, to whatever it will be.
A rare composition, by Michael Stearns, who beautifully fuses L Subramaniams carnatic themes into this.

Here you go, find a peaceful corner in your house, or around wherever you are now, under the bridge, in train, wherever. Plug into this piece through your headphones, and take a deep breath.
